Ride on!

All the fun of the fair, well we had a ball even if this carnie looks a bit bored, check out the great mural on the backdrop.
Leichhardt Festa , on sunday ,was a great family day out, and we just loved seeing some old time rides.

This is a great way to practice maths, let your child have a go adding up and see if they win a fluffy toy,
We didnt win ,so its also a great way to teach your child, you cant win everything!

Theres nothing like seeing a little kid get a kick out of going around in a circle in a snazzy looking car,
so sweet.

Shortie's 'Courtesy Aunt' makes her 1st entry into the world (as does her 1st niece!)

Hello everyone, and welcome to my first blog entry as the Shortie’s ‘Courtesy Aunt’!

As you know, Shortie’s isn’t just about mums and dads; it’s a whole world of delight for grandmas and grandpas, aunts and uncles, godparents and friends. As a real-life aunty, there’s nothing I love more than going into Shortie’s and taking in all the gorgeous treats for my beloved nephews (Thomas, 9; Harry, 7; Angus, 2) and JUST LAST THURSDAY, a little niece! Yes, t’was a most wonderful day. ‘No Name’ was born at 6am in the car. Outside the hospital. Caught by my brother. No word of a lie. ‘Howzat!’ for all those cricket balls he caught in his youff, culminating in the most important catch of all!

My sister-in-law, Sarah, woke up at 4.30am that morning with labour pains. They bundled young Gussie in the backseat and sped up King Street, Newtown (past Shortie’s,of course!) to the hospital, only to get stuck behind an Australia Post van (doubtless en route for a rather less-important delivery of its own).

Sarah is amazing. She knew the baby was on its way on the drive to the hospital and somehow managed to keep her cool. Meanwhile, as ‘No Name’ made her dramatic entry into the world, Gussie sat calmly in the backseat sucking on his dummy. Bless.

So, what to give a girl who has (almost) nothing? Well, I bought a set of adorable ‘Baby Jane’ socks, a ‘Littlehorn’ onesie and a gorgeous, handmade ‘Two Windmills’ rattle. Divine.

But the pièce de résistance has to go to my parents who, amongst other things, are giving ‘No Name’ a pink onesie with the words ‘Born Awesome’ on it.

Sums it up perfectly, really.

Outfit of the Week

Looking cool in Munster 'Trust the Kids tee', Mine stripey denim shorts, Kutie Protocol denim vest and Dents cap.

Newtown Public School Funday

Newtown Public are having a Funday. And, well, the name says it all really, it's going to be FUN! There will be markets, rides, food and more. Go along and check it out on Saturday, 30th of October from 10am - 3pm.

The sweetest little man, Otto, came into Shorties and bought a sun hat this week and we all feel in love with him.

Better late than never!

Stylin Scarlett: Two different styles with Seb and Sash

Seb and Sash are a brand new label and I just love their beaded vest and tuxedo style bolero. Here's what I wore them with:

Wear your Seb and Sash beaded vest with a Dragstar batik skirt for some hippie chic. Oh and team with your Mums spotty umbrella if she makes you pose for photos in the pouring rain!

Dress down your Seb and Sash tuxedo bolero with a Little Horn tee, Mine ripped denim shorts and some really comfy Saltwater Sandals.

Hand made, fair trade and sustainable products new to Shorties

We are so excited about a our new range of gorgeous hand made products made in India and Thailand. From lovely leather animal money boxes to extra large appliqued drawstring bags, all products are hand made in either Thailand or India by artisans through various fair trade organizations.

Here is an example of one such organization, Artisans Effort:

"Approximately forty-five men, working in twelve different groups are grateful to have the assurance of fair wages and continued work. Many of these employed by Artisans Effort were previously exploited and treated badly in the trade system. They are now respected, have dignity and receive a fair wage. For all these artisans and their families it is their lifeline and escape from poverty."

Beautiful appliqued bag made by women artisans from the Garo Tribe in Dhaka.
Leather coin purses and leather money boxes are made by the men employed by Artisans Effort in India.

Funky duck hand puppet also made in Dhaka by women of the Garo tribe for fair trade organization Surjomukhi.

Vintage Finds

Remember these ? i photographed this stunning set at Jamison Trash and Treasure markets in Canberra recently.

This Sparkling bunch of Jelly Sandals caught my eye at Rozelle markets.

A lovely young girl called Jen, was selling her rubber collection at Rozelle markets last week.

Stylin Scarlett: Missie Munster. Cool.

Missie Munster have very cool clothes for girls. I chose two outfits this week because I couldn't make up my mind. I think I like my outfit with a Dragstar denim vest though, it's a bit more fun!

Stylin Scarlett: Shorties newest (and smallest) stylist has landed on our blog!!!

Who is Stylin Scarlett? This budding stylist for kids is the fashion loving daughter of Shorties babe Becky. Each week she will dazzle us with her pick of the best Shorties fashion and give tips on how to put it all together. Her mum will photograph the ensembles she creates and post them directly to the Shorties blog. Scarlett is super excited about being a blogger and 'working' with her mum, so we hope you enjoy her fashion insights!! Stay tuned...
