As a blog reader you are the first to hear about this bargain hunters delight ,so come on down and get some beautiful toys before everyone finds out when we send the news out in our next newsletter later this week. Here's a sneak peek at some of the goodies on offer, with so many more suprises in store!

Vintage finds, French illustrations

These delightful illustrations came out of a french picture dictionary from the 1940 or 50s.
From Petite Vintage on Etsy. They remind us of the vintage bingo illustrations we framed, decorating  the Shorties store.have a look next time you pop in.

Mercy, 1

Mercy shows off her Shorties swag. She's cute as a button in her handknit cardi, and just a little bit mischievous by the looks of those Jolly Roger socks.

Outfit of the Week

Sometimes, when the weather is grey and cold, a floral Littlehorn dress, Knuffle Kid leggings and a pop of purple are just what's needed to put the 'spring' back in our step! This Missie Munster cardi and cheerful hand-crocheted flower brooch are practically made for each other; and we think attaching a flower to your scarf, beanie or cardi is always a good plan.

Pop a vintage fabric cap on your noggin' and you've almost forgotten it's winter...Hoo-ray!

Apple and Bee

We are now stocking the gorgeous Apple and Bee label. These guys are responsible for a seriously lovely  range of cosmetic, travel and baby bags that are made with the finest quality organic cotton, bamboo silk, hemp, burlap calico and leather. Their focus is on reducing the companies impact on the enviroment whilst producing a long lasting quality product. Beautiful and sustainable, we love it!

Umbrellas!!!

If you live in Sydney it's very likely that you need an umbrella right now. At least we've got the kids covered. In store now are the gorgeous Clifton umbrellas. These birdcage style brollies are colourful and fun as well as safe, featuring a patented runner for safe and easy opening. Did we mention they are adorable?

Eco Warrior: Tim Silverwood

Tim is the brother of Zoe Silverwood, the lovely lass who designs the beautiful Pretty Pickings label. We here at Shorties wanted to bring attention to a wonderful cause that Tim is involved with.

“Is your life too plastic?”

Environmentalist and co-founder of ‘Take 3’, Tim Silverwood thinks so, and is hosting screenings of the new, award-winning environmental documentary Bag It to help raise awareness of plastic pollution in our oceans.

The film explores our daily reliance on plastic and how this threatens not only waterways and marine life, but human health, too. Two of the most common plastic additives are endocrine disruptors, which have been shown to link to cancer, diabetes, autism, attention deficit disorder, obesity and infertility.

The screenings of this fantastic documentary will act as fundraisers for Tim, who in July this year, will sail from Hawaii to Vancouver to research plastic pollution in the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a huge plastic 'soup' twice the size of France thought to contain over 100 million tonnes of waste.

‘Take 3 – A Clean Beach Initiative’ is a non-profit organisation formed in 2009 that asks everyone to take three pieces of rubbish with them when they leave the beach, waterway or coastal area.

Watch 'Bag It', you'll be surprised at just how little you know about plastic.

We are so excited one of our best selling shoe brands Frayed Knot made some outrageous Pac Man and electric guitar themed shoes at our suggestion.  These cool leather pre-walkers are soft, durable and very stylish shoes for those still small enough to be sitting, crawling or perhaps even bottom shuffling around.

Remember Pac Man?

Rock on punk babies!

Outfit of the Week

Staying warm doesn't have to be a daggy affair! This week our little Mister is layering it up with multiple stripes, staying snug in a Munster unisex cardigan, and topping it all off with an oh-so-hip denim Shampoodle cap. Wrap it all up with a Littlehorn scarf and you're ready for some wintery wandering.
What a trendy little fellow!

Electric Lunchbox!

It's impossible to listen to Electric Lunchbox without cracking a smile. Each song draws inspiration from a different style of music, so prepare for rock 'n' roll, country and western, even a hint of funk! But do trust us when we say there is not one boring nursery rhyme in sight.
Kids will be jiving, grown ups will definitely end up singing along, and we can't promise the entire household won't be breaking out into a glorious rendition of 'Prawn Crackers' after a few listens.

Catchy! Take a peek...

Jayde Bond and Steve Shanahan are the duo behind the magic, and don't pretend it doesn't make you locals swell with Inner Westie pride to hear they are from Marrickville. Inspired by their music-loving kids (we reckon musical prowess must be in the water over at their place), Electric Lunchbox have perfected the art of sing-along-silliness.

You can pick up a copy of the CD here at Shorties now!

Bunk Bedlam

Having two boys in the same room, I'm always on the lookout for space saving ideas and how to fit them both in as they grow. The idea of bunk beds is so appealing , probably because I always wanted one as a child but only ever got a taste of bunks on family holidays. So bunks equal fun and good times. These pictures are from  http://mygroovydream.tumblr.com/
